This might be an unpopular opinion among designers, but yes—I think using a Canva logo for your business is totally fine! But…there will come a time when you absolutely need to upgrade to professional branding. So, when is it okay to use a Canva logo?

When You’re Just Getting Started

When you’re launching a new business, money is tight. I get it—I’ve started a few businesses myself, and in the beginning, figuring out where to spend your money is everything. You need to make sure your business idea is actually going to stick. (Around 58.8% of businesses make it past the five-year mark—so proving your concept before going all in is smart.) A Canva logo makes sense when:

  • You’re working with a small budget. It’s a cost-effective way to get a logo without spending thousands.

  • You need something fast. If design isn’t your thing and hiring a designer isn’t an option yet, Canva gives you endless logo templates to tweak in minutes.

  • It’s better than nothing. Having some sort of logo helps your business look legit, even if it’s temporary.

When It’s Time to Upgrade

After a few years in business, it’s time to invest in something that actually reflects your brand. The Canva logo got you through the early days, but it wasn’t made for you. And let’s be real—there’s a good chance another business (or ten) is using the same design.

A logo alone isn’t enough to create a strong, recognizable brand. Your visual identity should include a well-defined color palette, carefully selected fonts, and supporting brand assets like icons, patterns, or graphics. These elements work together to create a cohesive, professional brand experience across all platforms.

Here’s why investing in professional branding is worth it:

  • It makes your business look established and professional. No more generic templates—your branding will be custom, cohesive, and built around you.

  • It’s strategic. A designer doesn’t just make things look pretty; they consider your goals, audience, and industry to create branding that works.

  • Your brand will finally feel put together. No more random fonts and colors—everything will be consistent across your website, social media, and marketing materials.

  • It leads to better brand recognition (and trust). Studies show consistent branding across platforms can increase revenue by up to 23%.

The Bottom Line

Using a Canva logo in the beginning? No shame in that. But as your business grows, investing in professional branding is one of the best things you can do. If you’re feeling like it’s time to upgrade from that DIY logo, let’s chat.
